Knowledge Representation and Reasoning in the medical domain

Research Description:

Our research addresses the question: “how to represent and re-use heterogeneous forms of knowledge?” We have chosen the medical domain as our specific application area to study this general question. This involves choosing and combining different representations that allow for reasoning with different types of knowledge. Examples of such heterogeneous types of knowledge are process knowledge (for example medical procedures and guidelines), medical ontologies and vocabularies, declarative knowledge (for example about drug-drug-interactions or adverse reactions) and dynamic knowledge (such as a patient’s care pathway).
